Post 16 studies at The Ilfracombe Academy are open to all students in the school catchment area and to students from other schools in North Devon who wish to apply. We also welcome applications from mature students.
We recognise that choosing courses can be difficult and so we make sure our students are carefully guided towards sensible and realistic choices during their time in Year 11. We hold information sessions in the autumn term, which are open to all students and parents in North Devon. Applicants are interviewed individually normally by senior members of the Sixth Form team. Advice is also available at results day in August and our new Year 12 students benefit from induction sessions in July and September, which includes further one to one interviews with staff. Interviews are designed to provide guidance and advice as well as the opportunity to discuss career plans in detail. Their purpose is to ensure that students are guided to courses appropriate to their academic ability and interests. We pride ourselves on knowing our students well and this begins with ensuring that they begin Post-16 studies secure in their chosen courses.
