Update on Face Coverings

Dear Parents and Carers

As you know, I wrote to you all last week regarding the wearing of face coverings. We still have relatively low case numbers compared to other local schools as we have 23 student and 2 Staff LFD cases. However, we do have a further 7 staff members absent for other reasons.

Therefore, at this stage we feel it is prudent to err on the side of caution. As of Thursday 27th January the expectation will be that all staff and students will be expected to continue to wear face coverings on the corridors and social spaces unless they are exempt. This is contrary to the Government guidance but we feel this is a necessity until we have confirmation that the latest wave has passed through North Devon. Students will also still be expected to wear face coverings on public transport and dedicated transport services.

We feel that these measures will help to control the infection rate and will hopefully minimise the number of students and staff that have to self-isolate. To that end, we would also still like to strongly recommend that you encourage your child to continue to wear their face covering in lessons.

A number of other local schools are at the point of sending year groups home due to staff numbers. I’m pleased to say that we’re not at that stage yet but we have been training our staff and students on how to access live lessons if we do need to take similar action in the future.

As always, we will continue to monitor the situation regarding case numbers and will communicate any safety changes that need to be made to parents and carers.

Kind regards
