Open Evening 2021
Dear Year 6 Students & Parents.
We are delighted to invite you and your child to our Year 6 Open Evening on Monday 20th September. We apologise for the delay in getting the information out to you, however we wanted to ensure that we could run a live event safely. This year we will be adapting our normal open evening by asking parents to book time slots to ensure that we can manage the amount of people flowing through the building at any one time. To do this, please visit our homepage on www.ilfracombeacademy.org.uk and scroll down to the events section to book. You will have the opportunity to book one of four starting times:
Please be advised that booking will close at 10am on Monday 20th September. Bookings will be made on a first come first serve basis.
Each time slot will start with a presentation from the Headteacher and the Head Girl and Boy. Parents and their children will then be escorted by one of our student guides for a tour around the building. Unlike previous years, the tour will move through the various departments but won’t allow for as much interaction time as we would normally prefer. We are endeavouring to give you all an immersive experience as possible whilst working within Government guidelines to ensure everyone's safety.
Whilst visiting us, we ask the following:
Parents will need to book a family slot (max 3 people per group including your Y6 child).
Please arrive no more than 10 minutes before their slot commences.
Each family group must move through the school through the planned one-way system with their allocated student guide.
Face Coverings will need to be worn inside the building unless a parent or child is exempt.
Where possible, please keep a reasonable distance from others (we realise that this will be difficult).
Please do not attend if you or your family are experiencing any Covid-19 symptoms.
Teachers and staff will remain socially distanced.
Furthermore, for those families that who are unable to make our Open Evening, an interactive experience will be available online at
We are aware that several newspaper headlines have sensationalised our current situation. We would like to assure parents that following our recent LFD tests in school, of the 32 students who tested positive in Year 7, 23 have tested negative and have returned to school; 8 await the result of the PCR test but are well and displaying no symptoms and only 1 student has returned a positive PCR result. Importantly and reassuringly we have only had three other positive cases in school and all other remaining one thousand consenting students have tested negative after the completion of two LFD tests in school.
Please also be assured that the school is taking all necessary action and following up-to-date Government advice to help stop the spread of the virus.
We look forward to seeing you on Monday.
Steve Rogers (Headteacher)
