A rainy morning on 1st May saw the first activity on our new pitch testing out its all-weather credentials. By lunchtime the sun had come out and the Academy greeted its guests for the official opening.
After a welcome from the Headteacher, Sharon Marshall, Sir Nick Harvey MP addressed the assembly before cutting the ribbon and declaring the pitch ‘Open’.
The first shot on goal was taken by the youngest student on role, Owen Belgrove, who successfully kicked the ball around the guest goalkeeper Richard Slaney from NDDC. Other shots on goal were also taken by students and visitors including Sir Nick Harvey.
The opening of the new pitch marks the start of a new and exciting chapter for sport in The Ilfracombe Academy and the wider Ilfracombe community.
