In association with Health Promotion Devon, 20 Year 8 students have been trained as peer mentors in the #MakeaNoise programme. The training equips the students to go back into school and talk to their peers about the issues and dangers around smoking.
The students took part in different activities throughout the day including role play and designing anti-smoking posters and came away armed with information. Megan Palmer, who really enjoyed the training, said of the day ‘When we were asked to take part in the #MakeaNoise training I honestly thought it was going to be boring. However when the training started we were given lots of interesting information about the dangers of smoking. We explored what smoking is in depth, found out about the chemicals in cigarettes, the harm these chemicals may cause and how to help people who are trying to stop. Now I understand the dangers around smoking I find it shocking. I will definitely ‘Make a Noise’ back at school about the dangers of smoking.’
