The Ilfracombe Academy: A Church of England Academy

What is a Church School?

A Church school is a community committed to a deeply Christian vision, with the promise by Jesus of ‘life in all its fullness’ at its heart. This is a vision that embraces the spiritual, physical, intellectual, emotional, moral and social development of children and young people. Church schools offer a vision of human flourishing for all, one that embraces excellence and academic rigour.

This is worked out theologically and educationally through four key elements;

A Church school will foster confidence, delight and discipline in seeking wisdom, knowledge, truth, understanding, know-how, and the skills needed to shape life well.

A Church school opens up horizons of hope and aspiration, and guide pupils into ways of fulfilling them.

A Church school has a core focus on relationships and commitments, participation in communities and institutions, and the qualities that enable people to flourish together.

Human dignity, the ultimate worth of each person is central to good education. The basic principles of respect for the value of each person involves continual discernment, deliberation and action.

Did you know that..

The Church is the biggest sponsor of academies in England

Approximately 1 million children attend Church of England schools

About 15 million people alive today went to one

A Church school exists for the common good of the whole human community and its environment. It is hospitable to diversity, respects freedom of religion and belief, and encourages others to contribute from the depths of their own traditions and understandings. We invite collaboration, alliances, negotiation of differences, and the forming of new settlements in order to serve the flourishing of a healthy plural society.

The school was judged to be Good with Outstanding Leadership.

“A strong sense of hope pervades this rapidly improving school. It has a transformational impact on students that is clearly shaped by its Christian vision.”

What is distinctive about The Ilfracombe Academy as a Church School?

Values- “Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds” Hebrews 10:24

We have a clear set of Christian values chosen in consultation with the whole school community. All our policies and practices are formed with these values clearly at the forefront. All adults and students seek to practice these values at all times in our dealings with each other and the wider community.

Life in all its fullness
