Once again parents, carers, staff and friends of The Ilfracombe Academy were treated to a pre-Christmas musical feast and, as usual with this annual event, all tastes were catered for. The music genres on display ranged from classical, to pop, reggae and folk. The varied programme included both solo and ensemble items interspersed by the customary rousing congregational carols and the audience also enjoyed outstanding piano, violin and clarinet recitals.
The Evening was opened with a solo verse from ‘Once in Royal David’s City’ and this was followed by a candlelight procession of the Choir through the audience.
The vocal performances supported by the Academy musicians were mesmerising and moving: Matthew Finch (War is Over), Lois Grieve (Away in a Manger), Ellie Knight (Redemption Song), Jacob Overney (Real Love), Rachel Woolmer (Can’t Help Falling in Love with You), Lois Bird with Laura McGonigle and Annie Coker (Streets of London) and a number of pieces from the Academy’s singing group ‘Dynamic’.
Our solo musicians left the audience in thrall with their recitals: Carolin Hauser on Violin, Jasmine Currie-Cathey on Piano and Emily Reynolds on clarinet.
It was a wonderfully festive evening enjoyed by staff, students and parents. Thank you to all who attended and well done to our very talented performers.
