It is with great pleasure that The Ilfracombe Academy return to Swaziland after such a successful trip in 2013. It is a privilege to front such a trip and continue our relationship with both Challenge Ministries UK and the seven Swazi children that we directly sponsor.
Although the essence of the trip remains similar, we have now opened it out to year groups ranging from Year 9 through to Sixth Form and this time, we are a bigger team of twenty-one students, two staff and one lucky parent!
Trips like this provide a unique educational and cultural experience for our students. We will be living and working within the Swazi community and our students will have numerous opportunities for moral and spiritual growth. Conservation projects, dance workshops with the community, mountain hiking, bush craft and safaris will ensure a very busy and active two weeks for the team.
We have been very fortunate to receive a number of generous donations from the public, staff, parents and students alike. Alongside the various fundraising projects both in and outside of school Pedlars (pictured below) have donated items such as work gloves, footballs and clothing. British Airways have also kindly allowed us more baggage to accommodate the gifts we have received.
As a school we are always keen to allow our students the chance to experience opportunities such as this and we hope that we can provide memories they will cherish for life. I know that Swaziland will provide the perfect platform for a number of them to grow and develop as young adults and see that one of the poorest third world countries is in fact so rich in culture and the values of hope, courage and kindness.
